Combining image and text, this work presents a portrait of Havyne Cooper, a 33-year-old stage-4 cancer survivor, alongside her own words about her experience. It is part of Robinson’s ongoing series “Under the Pencil,” which brings photographic portraits together with handwritten reflections by women diagnosed with cancer. By creating a space for patients and survivors to express themselves on their own terms, the project aims to restore a sense of identity and ownership over their stories.

The photographer and educator, Erica Robinson focuses on travel photography and visual storytelling. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, she began "Under the Pencil".
