Show Off Poster by Roger Ballen

Explore the surreal and unsettling world of Roger Ballen, a photographer who for more than 40 years has created stark black-and-white images that blur the line between reality and absurdity. Ballen’s work is often described as an absurd theater, a haunting reflection on the human condition. His photographs reveal a world stripped of ideals, purity, and direction, where actions appear both futile and absurd. Yet, within this darkness, a strange beauty and humor emerge, changing how we view both humanity and photography itself.

This motif comes from the exhibition Theater of the Absurd (2014) at Fotografiska Stockholm, which showcased 105 works spanning from the 1970s to the present, many displayed for the first time. The poster depicts a joyful man performing playfully on a sofa, an image that embodies Ballen’s ability to capture tragicomedy in its most human form.
