This poster features a work by Mikael Owunna, a Nigerian-American multimedia artist, filmmaker, engineer, and chair of Pittsburgh’s Public Art and Civic Design Commission. Owunna is also the co-founder and executive director of Rainbow Serpent, a nonprofit organization for Black LGBTQ+ people.
His artistic practice explores the intersections of technology, art, and African cosmologies, illuminating liberatory visions that revive traditional African knowledge systems and invite us to move beyond imposed boundaries and restrictions.
Part of Fotografiska’s major 2024 exhibition Space - A Visual Journey, this work joins 13 internationally renowned photographers who each explore space from their own perspective, blending art with scientific discovery. The exhibition reflects on humanity’s timeless questions: Who are we, and what is our place in the cosmos?
