I Have a Dream Poster
This historic photograph captures Martin Luther King Jr. waving to the crowds during the March on Washington at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. On this day, King delivered his world-famous I Have a Dream speech, one of the most significant addresses in American history.
Inspired by the Bible, the U.S. Declaration of Independence, Shakespeare, Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, and the Gettysburg Address, King denounced the shameful state of a nation where basic rights such as life and liberty were denied to many on the basis of race. The most famous passage, eight sentences beginning with “I have a dream”, was not in the original manuscript but added spontaneously as he spoke, forever etching itself into collective memory.
The image was featured in the exhibition News Flash - A Century of News at Fotografiska Stockholm, presenting highlights from the extensive TT News Agency photo archive spanning 1921 to today.
