Photographer and filmmaker Diana Markosian was only seven years old when her family left their life in Moscow to start anew in California, leaving her father behind. In Santa Barbara, inspired by the iconic TV soap opera of the same name, Markosian reimagines her family’s story through staged photography and film. By reconstructing the past from her mother’s perspective, she explores sacrifice, identity, and the complexities of becoming American.
