Description
Book: Retrospective
This extensive retrospective offers a deep dive into the distinctive visual world of Swedish photographer Lars Tunbjörk. Across more than 300 pages and over 250 of his finest images, the book captures his unmistakable eye for the surreal within the everyday.
No other contemporary photographer has explored the Swedish soul as thoroughly as Tunbjörk. From campsites, beaches, pizzerias, and supermarkets to offices and workplaces, his photographs reveal a uniquely bittersweet view of modern life, filled with humor and melancholy in equal measure.
While rooted in Sweden, Tunbjörk was also one of the country’s most internationally acclaimed photographers, contributing regularly to leading publications worldwide. The book includes an essay by Kathy Ryan, Director of Photography at The New York Times Magazine, who collaborated with Tunbjörk for over two decades, as well as a biographical text by author and friend Göran Odbratt. The image selection was curated by filmmaker and photographer Maud Nycander, Tunbjörk’s wife.
