Scream #4 Poster by Miles Aldridge
Discover the vibrant and unsettling world of Miles Aldridge, the British artist celebrated for his striking use of pop art, bold color, and dark humor. His photographs resemble cinematic stills, fragments of a larger narrative, marked by vivid hues, meticulously styled scenes, and psychologically charged undertones that challenge the status quo.
Rising to prominence in the mid-1990s, Aldridge has captivated audiences with his stylized photography referencing film noir, art history, and pop culture. A master colorist, he creates detailed mise-en-scènes in sharp, saturated tones. Behind the glamorous and often eroticized surfaces, however, lie unsettling tensions that question ideals of domestic perfection. With a career spanning more than 25 years, Aldridge remains one of the few photographers still working primarily with film.
This motif comes from his largest retrospective to date, Virgin Mary. Supermarkets. Popcorn. Photographs 1999–2020, which presented over 120 works, including collaborations such as (after Cattelan) with artist Maurizio Cattelan. The photograph depicts a woman screaming into a pink telephone, a striking image that exemplifies Aldridge’s provocative visual language.
