What does it mean to be a man today? Is masculinity something you are born with, something you learn, or something you are expected to perform? Harder Better Faster Stronger – Are Men OK? brings together 30 artists from around the world to explore one of today’s most debated questions of identity.
From looksmaxxing and wrestling to fatherhood, vulnerability and care, the exhibition explores different ideas of masculinity and what happens when you do not fit the expected ideal. The title’s four words are traditionally associated with strength, competition and ambition, but can also become demands to be tougher, perform better and never show weakness. Are Men OK? turns the focus to the consequences of these ideals and how they affect not only men, but society as a whole.
